You will learn ECDIS as a tool in support of navigation while using all systems. I offer a number of techniques that build competence and confidence without dependencies; the principle is to preserve the safety of navigation even while practicing.
New to Maritime Training?
ECDIS navigation integrates many skills. You should already be strong in at least 50% of these:
- Terrestrial & coastal navigation
- Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs)
- Vessel maneuvering and piloting
- Radar & ARPA operation
- Enav (GPS, AIS, Gyro, speed log, sounder)
- Basics of Bridge Resource Management
- Mid-level skills in computers
ECDISTraining
My ECDIS course is the original USCG-approved course (2001). I wrote the STCW training standards for ECDIS for the Manila Amendments (2010).
My course is the source for IMO’s MC 1.27 (2012). I built my invention of ECDIS training on the sciences of underway watch standing and how adults can learn to competently integrate new technologies.
